Youngjin Hong

Managing Director, Nepal Water and Energy Development Company

Mr. Hong is a proven leader in renewable energy development, with over 15 years of experience in executing and financing large-scale power projects across Asia. A South Korean national and engineering graduate of Hanyang University, he specializes in hydropower, thermal energy, and international infrastructure financing.

As General Manager of Gulpur Hydropower (102 MW, Pakistan), he successfully led its commissioning in 2019, overcoming financial and technical challenges. Now, as Managing Director of NWEDC, he drives the 216 MW Upper Trishuli-1 Project in Nepal, financing backed by KOEN, KIND and nine global lenders, including IFC, AIIB, ADB, KEXIM BII, KDB, FMO, Proparco and OPEC Fund.

While at KOEN headquarters, he served as a senior manager, leading the design and construction of new domestic combined-cycle power plants and overseeing various power plant construction projects.

With deep expertise in poject execution, securing financing, and implementing ESG frameworks, Mr. Hong actively works to bridge the gap between renewable energy potential and industrial adoption. His leadership in navigating policy, financial, and operational barriers makes him a key voice in driving actionable solutions for accelerating clean energy transitions.
