Suchart Klaikaew
Suchart (Charles) Klaikaew is the Program Lead for Innovation Regions for a Just Energy Transition (IKI JET) in Thailand and an experienced Just Energy Transition expert. At the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH—Germany’s main development agency—he leads Thailand’s Just Transition initiatives and coordinates IKI JET programs in coal-dependent regions across Indonesia, Vietnam, Mongolia, Chile, Colombia, and South Africa.
He has advised Thailand’s national sub-committees on coal phase-out and green industrial transformation, contributing to decarbonization roadmaps for the energy, transport, and hard-to-abate sectors. His work focuses on integrating carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS), hydrogen, and renewable energy into national policies, while fostering sustainable economies and community-driven transition pathways. His technical expertise spans energy systems optimization, flexibility modeling, and the repurposing of coal-fired power infrastructure across Southeast Asia.
Previously, Suchart worked as an energy consultant across the Asia-Pacific region, specializing in energy market analysis, renewable energy policy, and fossil fuel transition strategies. He holds two M.Sc. degrees in Energy Systems Engineering and Analytics from the United States.
