Kari Punnonen
Kari Punnonen leads Wärtsilä Energy's business in Australasia, focusing on supporting customers and stakeholders in the transition towards cleaner and more sustainable energy systems. His role centers on enabling decision-makers to identify and implement solutions that accelerate the energy transition while ensuring reliable power supply.
With more than 30 years of experience at Wärtsilä Energy across commercial and leadership roles, Kari brings deep industry knowledge and a strong customer-centric approach. He has played a significant role in advancing Australia's energy transition and addressing growing electricity demand across Pacific Island Nations.
Kari has also been closely involved in power projects in Indonesia, working in collaboration with the national utility. His recent experience includes the delivery of over one gigawatt of dual-fuel, engine-based power generation capacity across multiple Indonesian islands.
He holds a Master of Science in Energy Technology and International Marketing. Outside of work, Kari is an active competitive sailor in the Singapore region.
