Izumi Kai
Izumi Kai is the Managing Executive Officer, CEO of JERA Asia, based in Singapore, as well as the Head of Platform Business Division at JERA Co. He oversees JERA’s downstream fuel and power activities, driving the development of JERA’s gas-to-power and low greenhouse gas thermal power businesses across Asia, the Middle East, and North America.
Since joining JERA Co. in 2016, Mr. Kai has played a pivotal role in the development of a number of JERA’s international ventures. These include the successful launch of JERA Global Markets in Singapore, JERA’s LNG optimization and trading platform, as well as the procurement of natural gas and export of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the Freeport LNG Project in Texas. He served as President of JERA Energy America from 2019 to 2023 and was also the Head of Freeport LNG Business, Senior Vice President of JERA Americas in 2019, and Chief Strategy Officer in 2021.
In addition to his role at JERA, Mr. Kai serves on the Board of Directors at Aboitiz Power in the Philippines and Summit Power International in Singapore. With over 25 years of business development experience across the U.S., Australia, Japan, and other Asian countries, Mr. Kai began his career as a civil engineer at Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO). He holds an MBA in Global Management from Arizona State University’s Thunderbird School of Global Management.
