Avinash Kumar is the Additional Vice President and Head of DSM & EE and Energy Analytics at BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL), a power distribution licensee and joint venture of Reliance Infrastructure and the Government of Delhi, India. With over 25 years of experience in the Indian power sector, he began his career with Reliance Infrastructure Limited, working on commissioning, operations, and energy efficiency projects at a power generating station. At BRPL, he currently leads initiatives in energy efficiency, demand-side management, and energy analytics. His key achievements include executing India’s first utility-scale and South Asia’s largest standalone distribution-level 20 MW/40 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), implementing behavioral energy efficiency programs, and driving automated demand response demonstrations for residential and commercial consumers. Avinash has also led large-scale energy conservation initiatives, efficient cooling and lighting programs, and developed non-wired alternatives to manage peak demand. His expertise spans DSM and energy efficiency interventions, utility energy accounting, capacity building, and consumer outreach. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, a Postgraduate Diploma in Thermal Power Plant Engineering from the National Power Training Institute, New Delhi, and is a certified Energy Auditor by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency under the Ministry of Power.
