Akira Takahashi
Akira Takahashi is the President and Managing Director of Mitsubishi Power (Thailand) Ltd and MHI Power Project (Thailand) Co. Ltd based in Bangkok. Appointed in 2023, he is responsible for developing and implementing the strategy for business operations in the country, aligning with business objectives.
He is also appointed as Senior Vice President of GTCC Service for Asia Pacific, overseeing the marketing and sales strategy for the business, as well as the execution of long-term service agreements and transactional contracts. Takahashi has over 28 years of experience in the power business, with an extensive technical background in engineering and project management. He brings with him global expertise as well, having spent over 13 years working outside of Japan.
Takahashi started his career at ABB Japan in 1996, overseeing technical sales for thermal power plant products. From 1999 to 2007, Takahashi joined Alstom based in Baden, Switzerland, where he was responsible for the gas turbine business. He was the primary liaison for communications between Alstom Switzerland and a JV company in Japan and managed EPC projects for a Canadian GTCC power plant during his tenure. In 2007, he joined Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) in Japan where he continued providing expertise in the engineering domain. In 2013, he was appointed Project Engineering for Mitsubishi Power Systems Middle East in Abu Dhabi and subsequently General Manager, where he established the services team to oversee the operations of the repair facility. In 2015, he was named CEO, and increased company sales by 100% and net profit by 400% over a 3-year period.
From 2018 to 2023, he returned to Japan to oversee the Takasago Service Sales and Strategic Planning department, where he managed business development, project management and sales and marketing activities for the business, before taking on his current role in Thailand. Takahashi graduated from Kobe University with a bachelor’s in marine engineering and attended Harvard Business School’s Executive program for Leadership Development. He enjoys Kendo and spending time with this family in his spare time.
