PLN appoints Suroso Isnandar as President Director, succeeding Darmawan Prasodjo
PT PLN (Persero), Indonesia's state electricity utility, has appointed Suroso Isnandar as its new President Director, replacing Darmawan Prasodjo, following an Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders held on 14 October 2026.
The appointment was confirmed by PLN Commissioner Andi Arief. Suroso previously served as Director of Project Management and New and Renewable Energy, a position he will continue to oversee until a successor is appointed.
He succeeds Darmawan Prasodjo, who had served as President Director since December 2021. During his tenure, Darmawan oversaw a period of significant organisational development and energy transition initiatives, with Andi Arief acknowledging his contributions to PLN's transformation.
The leadership change comes at an important period for Indonesia's electricity sector. Under the country's 2025 to 2034 Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL), PLN is tasked with supporting the development of 69.5 GW of additional capacity, including 42.6 GW of new and renewable energy generation and 10.3 GW of energy storage, alongside substantial transmission infrastructure expansion.
Delivering these commitments will require more than additional generation capacity. Investment mobilisation, grid readiness and the coordination of generation and transmission development will be central to ensuring that new electricity supply can reliably serve Indonesia's growing industrial and economic requirements.
These are challenges increasingly shared by utilities across ASEAN, where electricity demand is rising alongside the need to diversify generation portfolios, strengthen energy security and maintain affordable, reliable power. For PLN, the task is particularly complex given Indonesia's archipelagic geography and the distribution of energy resources across different islands.
As PLN enters this next period of leadership, the implementation of its electricity development plans will remain significant for Indonesia's energy future and the region's evolving power landscape.
Enlit Asia wishes Bapak Suroso Isnandar every success in his new role and extends its sincere appreciation to Bapak Darmawan Prasodjo for his longstanding support of Enlit Asia.
