MedcoEnergi Reduces Gas Fuel Consumption, Enhances Efficiency and Energy Transition

MedcoEnergi Reduces Gas Fuel Consumption, Enhances Efficiency and Energy Transition

Jakarta, 13 October 2025 – PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk (MedcoEnergi) has achieved significant progress in its Fuel Gas Optimization Program through a series of initiatives across its oil and gas assets. These achievements strengthen operational efficiency, support Indonesia’s energy transition, and deliver carbon emission reductions.

A key initiative was the optimization of the Waste Heat Boiler (WHB) operating mode at the Grissik field, Corridor Block, South Sumatra. By utilizing heat from the combustion of waste gas from production process to produce steam, operations became more efficient and environmentally friendly, cutting emissions by approximately 19,000 tCO₂e annually.

In Natuna Offshore, the optimization of the Terubuk–Belida facility allowed production to flow without compressors, lowering emissions by around 24,000 tCO₂e each year. For Onshore assets, efficiency improvements were achieved through electrification, converting power supply from gas-fueled generators to PLN’s clean electricity grid, along with optimized turbine and compressor operations.

“Fuel gas efficiency and emission reduction are not only technical targets, they are part of MedcoEnergi’s long-term sustainability roadmap. Since 2022, our initiatives have cumulatively reduced gas fuel consumption by about 18 MMscfd. These results reflect our commitment to continuous innovation, operational excellence, and responsible energy development, creating long-term value for stakeholders while reducing our carbon footprint,” said Ronald Gunawan, Director & Chief Operating Officer of MedcoEnergi.

Looking ahead, MedcoEnergi will continue advancing its sustainability agenda through its medium- and long-term roadmap, including the adoption of new technologies such as Organic Rankine Cycle, Steam Turbine Generators, and energy storage systems, reinforcing its role as an adaptive and responsible energy company committed to Indonesia’s energy security.
