)
29 April 2025 - Relocation to Kai Tak Symbolises Commitment to Hong Kong
The CLP Group yesterday celebrated the grand opening of its new headquarters in the site of the former Kai Tak airport, underscoring the Group’s support to the Hong Kong SAR’s vision to develop the historic area into a vibrant community.
CLP is the first corporate that has established a headquarters building in the revitalised district, where the new Kai Tak Sports Park is also located. The building, one of the city’s greenest, serves to support CLP in its next stage of growth as the energy transition generates promising opportunities for the Group.
Hosted by CLP Holdings Chairman the Honourable Sir Michael Kadoorie, the grand opening ceremony was officiated by Secretary for Environment and Ecology of the Hong Kong SAR the Honourable Mr Tse Chin-wan, Deputy Commissioner of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Hong Kong SAR Mr Li Yongsheng and Deputy Director-General of the Department of Economic Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong SAR Mr Lyu Feng.
CLP Holdings Chairman the Honourable Sir Michael Kadoorie said: “Like Kai Tak, CLP’s roots in Hong Kong run deep, as we have powered this great city since 1901, lighting up homes, driving business growth and fuelling its prosperity. The new CLP Headquarters is a symbol of our confidence in Hong Kong and our commitment to its future. It is a living embodiment of our purpose: to Power Brighter Tomorrows.”
Secretary for Environment and Ecology of the Hong Kong SAR the Honourable Mr Tse Chin-wan said: “I would like to congratulate CLP on the grand opening of the new headquarters, a development with cutting-edge sustainable design that aligns with the SAR Government’s Climate Action Plan. This building underscores CLP’s leadership in transforming infrastructure into a catalyst for decarbonisation – proving that economic growth and environmental stewardship can thrive hand-in-hand.”
The architecture of the new CLP Headquarters is inspired by traditional oriental design elements including the Chinese folding screen and sailing junk, encapsulating Hong Kong’s unique East-meets-West character. The design of the 10-storey building is testament to the Group’s commitment to the rich heritage of Hong Kong while embracing the future.
The new headquarters, which provides flexible workspaces for around 1,000 people,is also a showcase of CLP’s commitment to sustainability. The use of highly efficient water fixtures enables the building to reduce indoor water use by more than 50%compared to the baseline of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). Environmental materials including high-performance glazing and carbon-negative carpets made with recycled materials are used throughout the new headquarters, contributing to a 25% reduction in carbon emissions compared to standards set by the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department. With the use of these innovative technologies, the new CLP Headquarters has been provisionally accredited with platinum-level environmental certifications including LEED, the WELL Building Standard and BEAM Plus.
