Powering Regional Sovereignty, Securing Energy Systems Resilience

Grid Modernisation

The reliability and flexibility of ASEAN’s grids will determine the pace of the region’s transition. Discussion will focus on expansion requirements, the integration of variable renewable energy, digital and system management tools, and the regulatory and investment conditions needed to deliver resilient networks and enable regional interconnection.

Clean & Thermal Generation

ASEAN’s generation mix is undergoing a structural shift. Conventional assets remain critical for baseload and system stability, but must adapt to accommodate renewables, while hydrogen and nuclear emerge as longer-term options. This stream will consider technology readiness, commercial models, and system planning frameworks for an evolving generation portfolio.

Powering Industry & Decarbonisation

Energy-intensive industries like mining, battery manufacturing, and metals processing face growing pressure to secure reliable, affordable power while managing emissions. Project viability depends on power availability, grid access, and tariff certainty, with decarbonisation shaping rather than driving decisions. This stream explores how operators balance firm power through captive generation, grid supply, and hybrid solutions, alongside electrification, efficiency, and carbon reduction measures without compromising reliability or bankability.

Digitalisation & AI

The role of digital systems in enabling the transition is expanding rapidly, from grid optimisation and asset management to advanced customer engagement and distributed energy resource integration. This stream will address the requirements for ICT infrastructure, data management, and cybersecurity, as well as the organisational and regulatory changes needed to advance the digital utility.

Powering Data Centers

As data center demand grows across ASEAN, access to reliable power is critical for site selection and expansion. The Data Center Power Forum explores how utilities and operators ensure supply adequacy, resilience, and delivery certainty through capacity planning, dedicated supply, on-site generation, storage, and the practical limits of renewable energy for 24/7 uptime.

Nuclear Energy

Nuclear energy is back on ASEAN’s agenda as countries assess system reliability, energy security, and firm capacity needs. This stream explores nuclear’s role today, from policy and regulatory readiness to public acceptance and financing. With a focus on SMRs and phased deployment, discussions cover grid stability, renewable integration, and practical challenges across the region.
