The Grid

Grid infrastructure is the enabler of the energy transition. Hear how technology will help ensure a stable, reliable grid that will facilitate the ASEAN energy transformation and electricity for all.

The grid forms the backbone of the region’s electric power system but may also cause a bottleneck in the energy transition. Existing grid infrastructure must be prepared to enable a smooth transformation and in this Hub we will look at the elements impacting the grid from increased load required to meet forecasted demand growth, to the integration of high VRE and EVs. The grid of the future must be able to accommodate all use cases that will continue to emerge with the least amount of investment in terms of time and money. Companies will showcase the technologies being adopted globally that can support national grid infrastructure across Southeast Asia from ancillary services to the role of digitalisation and smart grids, outlining future-proof technological investments and how they can contribute to reducing integration costs for regulators and utility executives alike.

While the central grid must be futureproofed, perhaps the future of Southeast Asia’s grid infrastructure in achieving 100% electrification, lies in the development of microgrids and minigrids, connected or standalone. This Hub is not limited to centralised grid infrastructure and will look at various approaches for ensuring the supply of affordable and lower-carbon energy to all.
