Toshiba Mitsubishi Electric Industrial Systems Co., Ltd. (TMEIC) has created the newly released 15 MW class 2pole synchronous generator which was developed to meet the needs of the carbon-neutral future requirements in mind. Making full use of strength and rigidity analysis, the generator technology boasts approximately 30% mass reduction, while improved electromagnetic and cooling designs ensure higher efficiency, reaching a world-class power generation efficiency of 98.1%, versus a geothermal power generator of the same size.
Designed while recognizing the need to downsize generators that reduce the load of transportation and installation work due to the often challenging locations of thermal renewable power plants and flexible GTG plants, the generator footprint was also reduced by about 26% compared to conventional 15MW class generators. This new compact and higher efficiency generator is now available for production.
As the global demand for carbon neutrality increases, so too will the demand for thermal renewable power generation (biomass, geothermal, waste-to-energy (WTE), concentrated solar power (CSP), and Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC)), and Flexible GTG plants grow globally. With greater efficiency, lighter weight, and smaller footprint, TMEIC’s new generator is set to quickly find its place in a growing market.
