Decarbonisation is possible today with cost-competitive renewables, as solar and wind have become the cheapest electricity sources in over 90% of global markets due to significant cost reductions in the past decade. Integrating these renewables requires system flexibility to manage their intermittent nature, necessitating short-duration and seasonal balancing solutions. To support the energy transition, energy markets must be designed to incentivise flexibility and send the right signal for flexible capacity investments
